Free DNS lookup

Look up a domain's DNS records in one go: addresses, aliases, mail servers, name servers, TXT, CAA and SOA, with notes on common mistakes.

What it checks

Addresses

A (IPv4) and AAAA (IPv6) records, following any alias (CNAME).

Mail

MX records: where email for the domain is delivered.

Name servers

NS and SOA records, with a warning when there is only one name server.

TXT

SPF, site verification and other text records.

CAA and DNSSEC

Which certificate authorities may issue certificates, and whether the answers are signed with DNSSEC.

Questions

Why do my changes not show yet?

Every record has a TTL, the number of seconds other servers may keep the old answer. After a change, wait at least that long. The lookup goes through a public resolver, so it can show a cached answer too.

What is a CAA record?

It names the certificate authorities allowed to issue certificates for the domain. Without one, any authority may issue them.

Why does a www name show fewer records?

When a name is an alias (CNAME) of another, its other records belong to the name it points to. Look that name up to see them.

Is anything stored?

No. The name you enter is looked up and the answer is shown to you; the lookup is not saved or logged.
